My neighbors thought we were drug dealers when we moved into the neighborhood, because we had four cars and traffic in and out of our house!!!! (What we actually had was good jobs and grown children who drove also.). White privilege here again!
There are many times I am profiled, to this very day, while shopping at department stores. Blacks are profiled in cars, and stopped and searched for no reason whatsoever. There are many reports of black men being stopped and killed by police officers. There are also reports of black women being raped by their boss, some white male friend, or even by police officers. I thank God I was never raped by a boss or police officer. I believe only the Grace of God saved me. Blacks are often victims of police brutality. Blacks are frequently accused of crimes that we do not commit. A lot of black men and women are killed by police, without cause. This has gone unnoticed or un-cared about for hundreds of years, but because of instant video, cell phones, and instant media -maybe, just maybe -white people are beginning to see glimpses of what we face each day.
As I have aged, I see the hate and animosity many white people have for blacks. However, what frightens me more, and is a hundred times more dangerous, is the subtle hatred white people have for blacks, which shows itself as “You are not like us” or ”We are the real Americans not you,” or “You are lazy and ugly” or ”You want to live on welfare and take my taxes,” and sadly, but so real,” You are my next door neighbor and you must be a drug dealer because how can you afford to live where we live?” Many White people say such horrible things about blacks and honestly believe blacks are all lazy, on welfare, do not want to work, and just want to have babies. Well, I worked in Brandon Hospital (1982-1983) on the birth floor, writing birth certificates. I talked with many of these white women, some who were on welfare, and were from the ages of 12 and up. At that time, I spoke with only one black woman and she was not on welfare. Why is it not reported that white women are on welfare as well?
