Pride, Vanity, and the Fall - Part 2

Continuation of previous post

Some ministers abuse their wives with words or with physical abuse. Some wives know their husbands are having affairs with women in the congregation, and even have had children with these women. There are some husbands who are closet homosexuals and are on the down low. In my life, I have seen ministers who are pedophiles, sex addicts, drug addicts, and just outright thieves. Sadly, however, many wives cover for these men of God.

The end result of all of this is that some of these ministers fall because of pride and vanity, which grabs them in a vice-hold and won’t let go. Many wives watch their husbands in horror and sadness as they spiral deeper and deeper into this pit. These ministers no longer listen to their wives or their advice, and the prayers for them seem to go unanswered. Remember as some wives may have not been called into the ministry, they sometimes tend to think they have no place in their husband’s ministry, and they then begin to feel like they have simply been reduced to the “help”.

A good example of the plight of a ministers’ wife is… a woman puts her life on hold so that her husband can become a lawyer or a doctor. Some of these women suffer in poverty to make life possible for their husbands to advance. Once these husbands become lawyers or doctors, they divorce the wife for a younger version, throw her out of the house, and refuse to give child support to the kids. Society then castrates the single mother but gives accolades to the wonderful lawyer and/or doctor. -- To be continued...
